Restoration &
Repair

We repair carpets professionally with perfection. The repair and restoration of royal or new carpets is truly one of our greatest passions — to pour life back into a work of woven art, restore its beauty, and make it last through generations.

Royal Carpet Restoration provides top-quality expertise in repairing services. We have trained professional staff that can perform the task the way you want it done. A damaged carpet may disintegrate with surprising speed, the pile itself starting to come away.

Royal carpets require special care and conditioning so their values don't depreciate. We at RCR use all special techniques and handle them with utmost care to maintain the antique carpet with all its originality and value.

Royal carpets are very difficult to manage, since it is very difficult to match the wool. The repair must be done with wool of the same quality, dyed the same shade, and from the same period as the damaged piece — this demands great knowledge and experience.

Herbal Wash

Herbal wash technique was used in the Royal period to preserve the beauty of carpets for prolonged time. In all of Delhi, only Royal Carpet Restorations brings this technique out of the Royal era for our valuable customers.

Why Herbal Wash?

Cleaning of hand-knotted carpets and rugs, for appearance and the removal of stains, dirt, and allergens, is done through several methods. Clean carpets are more visually pleasing, longer-lasting, and healthier than poorly maintained ones.

Herbal hand washing should generally be carried out once every year. Carpets should not be dry-cleaned, as dry-cleaners use chemicals that are very harmful for the colour and quality of silk and woollen carpets.

Regular maintenance will help make deep cleaning easier. Carpets need to be vacuumed once a week — more often in high-use areas — to prolong life and prevent build-up of dirt. However, over-vacuuming is also not recommended as it can loosen the piles of royal carpets.

Our Herbal Ingredients

We carry out the herbal wash process using natural herbs that have been trusted for centuries. Each ingredient plays a specific role in preserving your carpet's beauty and integrity:

Reetha(Sapindus mukorossi)For natural shining
Shikakai(Acacia concinna)For strength & softness
Dry Neem(Azadirachta indica)Virus proof protection
Secret BlendProprietary formulaColour preservation

This process removes ingrained dirt and grit which can seriously erode the pile and surface if left over a long period.

Shawl
Restoration

The words "shawl" and "pashmina" originate from Kashmir, tracing back to Ali Hamdani who, in the fourteenth century, discovered the delicate fleece of Ladakhi goats and recommended to the King of Kashmir that a shawl weaving industry be established. Thus began the pashmina shawl legacy.

A generally accepted theory attributes the art of Jamawar weaving in India to the Mughal ruler Akbar, who invited skilled weavers from Arab nations and settled them in Kashmir. Under Mughal patronage, the craft bloomed and royal kharkanas — workshops of shawl weaving — were established.

We have shawl rafugar artisans who have practised this craft through many generations. Rafugars repair shawls using many specialist techniques including edging, shawl material matching, and warp & weft restoration. Their ability to work with such precision and perfection is irreplaceable — we are dedicated to preserving this art.

Assessment & Documentation

Each shawl is carefully examined. Damage, period, material, and weave type are documented before any work begins.

Material Matching

Rafugars source matching pashmina, wool, or silk threads dyed to the same shade as the original period piece.

Rafugari Repair

Specialist artisans perform edging, warp & weft restoration, and pattern reconstruction by hand.

Gentle Cleaning & Return

After restoration, the shawl is herbal-cleaned and carefully packed for return to its owner.
